The Fallas of Valencia are about to ignite… and the metro won’t sleep for an entire week! For the first time ever, Metrovalencia and Metrobús will offer an uninterrupted service for 168 hours, from Friday 13 to Friday 20 March, ensuring travel between mascletaes, firework displays, and the traditional ofrenda is easier, safer, and more sustainable.
The special operation, unveiled by the Regional Minister for the Environment, Vicente Martínez Mus, represents a major technical and human deployment with over 13,000 train and tram services scheduled. In total, the network will provide 5.8 million passenger places and cover almost 200,000 kilometres – the equivalent of circling the globe five times!
Over three million journeys are expected during these seven days, so FGV will deploy virtually its entire fleet and strengthen customer service, maintenance, cleaning, and security teams with more than 2,400 staff.
Strikes, temporary closures and recommendations
To prevent overcrowding, Xàtiva and Colón stations will remain closed during the mascletaes (from 14 to 19 March, between 12:30 and 14:30). Metrovalencia advises passengers to use nearby stations such as Alameda, Plaça Espanya, or Àngel Guimerà instead. The pedestrian underpass between Xàtiva and Alacant will also be closed at those times, as well as on the nights of 17 and 18 March due to the firework displays.
For safety reasons, from 13 to 19 March bicycles and e-scooters will not be allowed on board, and passengers are reminded that pyrotechnics, alcohol, and balloons are strictly prohibited.
Finally, the Spanish Train Drivers’ and Assistants’ Union (Semaf) has called a strike on the Metrovalencia network from 13 to 19 March, and again on 24 and 26 March. Service levels could therefore be affected on these dates.
