Renfe restores Málaga–Madrid connection with replacement bus to Antequera

Good news for rail passengers: since 18 February, Renfe has reinstated high-speed connections between Málaga and Madrid through a combined bus-and-train service.

The leg between Málaga and Antequera-Santa Ana is covered by bus, after which the journey continues by AVE to Madrid (and vice versa). Fourteen connections are available daily—seven in each direction—starting early in the morning at 07:25 from Málaga and 07:20 from Madrid.

This Temporary Transport Plan (Plan Alternativo de Transporte, PAT) will remain in place while infrastructure works continue in Álora following a slope collapse.

Although the journey now takes slightly longer, it remains the fastest option for travelling north from Málaga. Renfe is offering free ticket changes and cancellations and will provide updates through its usual communication channels, so travellers can continue their journeys with peace of mind while the line is being repaired.

Rail continues to be the most practical and sustainable mode of transport. If you’re travelling between Málaga and Madrid, check timetables on Renfe’s website and plan your trip with confidence.
