The railway is more than just a sustainable means of transport. It also plays a central role in the best leisure, tourism and cultural experiences, which can be enjoyed in comfort and will leave you with unforgettable memories.
Spain offers a wide range of tourist trains, most of them historic, allowing you to enjoy a day of leisure, tourism and culture on your own, with friends or with family.
They are the best way to discover new places or visit them in a different way to how you’ve done before. At Trainvelling, we’ve categorised tourist trains by type: historic, modern and, the most exclusive, luxury.

Historic trains and railways
If there is one train journey that is truly unbeatable, it is one that takes you back in time whilst also taking you to a place of great scenic, tourist and/or cultural value. Historic trains are an excellent way to experience first-hand what travel was like in the past. To preserve a piece of our history in a living museum.
Some of these trains run on private railways, some of which have been preserved and others reconstructed for historical and tourist purposes.
At present, and despite the pandemic, the following historic tourist trains are in operation, with the exception of the Strawberry Train and the Philip II Train. Although the latter runs when booked by groups, it has not yet returned to normal service.
Modern tourist trains
In addition to the historic ones, there are modern trains that provide tourist services both on private railcars and on the Adif network.
Tourist trains
The world’s largest railway train runs on Spanish tracks. Renfe offers a wide variety of top-class tourist trains, some as renowned as the Al Ándalus or the Transcantábrico.
